A Foster Care First for Us in Los Angeles

As we broaden the scope of our ticket programs, we have decided to learn more about and extend opportunities to children in foster care. On Sunday, umpire Mark Wegner invited Maria Diaz, the legal guardian to Joseph, Jacob, and Martin to Dodger Stadium for the game between the Dodgers and Pirates. LA entered the Sunday contest winners of three straight while the Pirates were on a string of bad luck losers of their last ten.

Rafael Furcal of the Dodgers hit a two run single in the fourth inning to get the Dodgers going and Nomar Garciaparra hit a home run in the 7th to help LA to a series sweep of the Pirates. West coast traffic delays prevented the family from meeting up with Mark before the game but we hope everyone enjoyed the game anyway.

Lisa-Marie Kaye is a Children Services Administrator for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Lisa, thank you for all of your help in making the day possible for Maria and the kids. You went above and beyond in your efforts to coordinate this with us and we look forward to establishing a long-term relationship with your department. We also wish to thank Mary Shaw and others for their role in working with us. You all are fantastic!

Dear Mark,

I want to thank you for looking towards Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, and offering a special experience to one of the families receiving services from us. The children were thrilled to speak with you and relay their thanks for making last Sunday a day that they will never forget.

June 25, 2006 was made even more special for the youth since they could easily enjoy the Dodger's victory from the excellent seats you gifted them. The boys are young (ages 7,9 and 11) but they are already huge Dodger fans! It was a treat for them that they will always treasure. The boys have set up a shrine in their bedroom with the souvenirs (autographed baseballs and items from the goodies bags you gave them) as well as their ticket stubs, Dodger Stadium flyers etc. Ms. Diaz (legal guardian) will add photos she took of the game and the kids to the wall. Ms. Diaz informed me that she will forward some of the pictures to you.

BLUE for Kids is a wonderful organization providing a much-needed service by giving disadvantaged and underprivileged youth the opportunity to experience an American tradition. Once again, I thank you, Samuel Dearth and the BLUE for Kids staff for working tirelessly on this program, to make a dream come true for one of our families in Los Angeles County.

Appreciatively,
Lisa-Marie Kaye, CSA
L.A. County Dept. of Child. & Fam. Services
