Mentors of Milwaukee

Three matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee were guests of umpires Marvin Hudson and Mark Wegner this weekend for games between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers. The series was very important for the Brewers as they try to stay close to the Cardinals in the National League Central Division race.

On Saturday, June 10th, mentor George Gilman and little brother Shane (pictured above) joined mentor Joseph Foy and DeMarko (pictured right) as Marvin's guests. Corey Hart's RBI single in the eighth inning drove in the winning run as the Brewers overcame an early three-run deficit to defeat the Cardinals. It was the 18th comeback win this year at home for the Brewers.

The next day, Tori Filzen and Kamaria were guests of Mark Wegner and hoped for another comeback victory as the Cardinals jumped to a 7-3 lead. Milwaukee fought hard to keep pace early, hitting three home runs and scoring in each of the first four innings. But the Brewers couldn't get over the hump and fell in the rubber game of a three-game set.

George, Joseph, and Tori...BLUE for Kids salutes your efforts. Thanks for everything you do to give your kids a positive influence and fun times like going to a Big League game.

Kate Mewes is a Match Support Specialist and Julie Murdoch is the Chief Program Officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee. Thank you both for all of your support in helping us send a few matches to the game.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for the tickets, the autographed baseballs, and photos. It was great to be able to meet you. My Little Brother, Shane, was thrilled. He talked about it often during the game. It was a bonus that the Brewers won. I think that it is a wonderful thing that you do in honoring programs like Big Brothers. It helps get the word out about the need for more men to become involved. Your efforts are truly appreciated.

Thanks again,

George Gilman, Big Brother

Hello, Marvin,

Damarko and I would like to say thank you for the gift bag, getting the opportunity to meet you, and for giving us the chance to enjoy one heck of a game! Damarko was very excited about the evening, and he exploded into his grandmother's house to tell everyone about it when I dropped him off. The work you do with BLUE for Kids has certainly touched the life of one more young person, and the example you set by giving back to the youth of this country is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Damarko Gordy-Dean (Little)
Joseph Foy (Big)

Hi Mark!

Thanks so much for the tickets and the little "gift bag". My "little sister", Kamaria, had a wonderful time at the game. You helped make her feel very special! Thanks so much!!
