Get Stuffed and Run for Kids - Annapolis
Thirteen BLUE for Kids supporters came together on August 26th for the first ever Get Stuffed and Run for Kids - Annapolis Ten Mile Run. Get Stuffed and Run for Kids is a fundraising and awareness program to benefit BLUE for Kids and agencies advancing the welfare of children.In advance of the race, Team BLUE runners asked friends, family members, and co-workers to sponsor their effort by donating for the cost of a stuffed animal. Together, the group raised over $17,000. Runners included Jay Akridge, Ken Arimitsu, Robin Brody, Mark Carter, Terry Crews, Samuel Dearth, Jeff Eckhaus, Pippin Gilman, John Petro, Jeff Scheyer, Tom Scott, Tim Smith, and Mike Yeager.
On race day, more than 4,500 runners braved the heat and humidity to participate in the end-of-summer tradition that winds through the streets of Maryland's capital. Not only did our thirteen runners overcome the heat and humidity, they did so while carrying Build-A-Bear Workshop Curly Teddy Bears dressed in their favorite baseball team's uniform.The Nationals, Orioles, Reds, Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Mariners, and Dodgers were all represented in an effort to raise awareness for Big League BLUE Reach - the BLUE for Kids children's hospital program where Major League Baseball Umpires meet with and distribute Build-A-Bear Workshop furry friends to children coping with serious illness.
