Marvin reviews the ground rules at Great America Ball Park during a BIG LEAGUE UMPIRING EXPERIENCE with kids and mentors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.

Marvin's career as a professional umpire began in 1992 when he attended the Brinkman-Froemming Umpire School. After five weeks of instruction from some of baseball's best Major and Minor League umpires, he received The Nestor Chylok Top Prospect Award—given to the student that instructors felt had the best potential to become a Major League Umpire.

After seven and a half years of working in the minor leagues to hone his umpiring skills, Marvin lived up to the expectations of The Nestor Chylok Award and was offered a Major League contract in 1999. Today he is widely regarded as one of the best young umpires in baseball.

Off the field, Marvin invests many hours in family and community service activities. Marvin and his wife Sherry understand young boys and girls are shaped by their experiences and influenced by the community of adults central to their lives. Far too many children grow up in single parent homes so Marvin makes a special effort to support the mentors and kids of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Marvin and Sherry are proud parents to Breckyn and Zackery. Grandson Camden is the most recent addition to the family.
