The BLUE for Kids children’s hospital program is a fun and interactive event designed to reduce the stress that a family experiences when a child is hospitalized. Big League BLUE Reach captures the spirit of the Build-A-Bear Workshop® in-store experience and brings it into pediatric patient rooms.
We recognize that a small act of kindness like giving a child a teddy bear has a very positive impact and lifts the spirits of the entire family. Anyone who has visited a Build-A-Bear Workshop store knows what a wonderful concept it is. Kids choose the type of animal, stuff it themselves, select clothes, and even receive a birth certificate for their furry friend. We do our best to replicate this experience in the hospital.
For Big League BLUE Reach, umpires visit children over a two hour period in a room-to-room format. Kids choose a pre-stuffed bear, puppy, or kitten along with a choice of outfits (e.g., baseball player, pirate, cheerleader, hula dancer). Umpires take time to dress each stuffed animal and sign baseballs.
 Program sponsors volunteer at our hospital visits. In 2008, Bristol-Myers Squibb serves as our national Presenting Sponsor for all 12 events and many other companies will sponsor events local to their communities.
